personal revolution

on Tuesday, I took the advise: "Stop bitching. Start a revolution."

so, after running some errands in Memphis, I took a timeout at the Botanical Gardens.

I'm thinking about making a poster out of this picture.

then, I decided to frog somethings that needed it and took advantage of a really good sale at a LYS that I do not care to patron. But, 50% off is 50% off.

now, I am back to my normal life. Sisters, yarn, reading, etc. The Twin's dance recital is this weekend. (read: lots of knitting time while waiting to watch them twirl.)

I guess that sums it all up for now...

nothing new

nothing old either. I'm still working on Icarus the II and socks for the Twins. I would be knitting more, but I have been reading on my Kindle. Sadly, I have nothing OTN that is mindless. So it is either read or knit and my books are a bit engrossing. Sure, there is the gift stock that can always grow some more but I don't want to make another scarf or dishcloth for the rest of the week.

the Step-Paternal Grandmother and I saw the new Indiana Jones movie. Despite the obvious historical inaccuracies, it was a good movie. And what did I expect out of an Indiana Jones film? A garter stitch scarf came out of the film with me for the stock but I don't really like it too much.

odd

I've been working. But I feel so much better these days. I actually had blood drawn without crying, screaming, or someone to hold me down. Do I want to do it again anytime soon? Are you joking? I hate non-craft needles. Despite these new pills, I am still afraid of needles that go into the body. This is coming from the person who couldn't wait to dissect animals in Biology.

socks for children are proving more exasperating than adult socks. I should know, I have both OTN (On The Needles for you non-knitters). My Sister's Birthday present isn't working at all, so I am opting to knit a pair of thick, green, cotton socks for her instead. I don't like cotton, it has absolutely no memory. I'm modifying Debbie Tomkies' Feet First pattern to get the job done. No clue what I'm doing with the Twins' socks.

lastly, I am going on a short vacation. 3 days and 2 nights at the Paternal Grandmother's house, located in a town that brags about its 3 working stoplights. Pure bliss for the over stressed me.

not very long post

between work, Full-Blooded Sister in the hospital, and sleep, there hasn't been that much going on.

thankfully, my Sister is back home after spending almost five days in the hospital with a bladder infection.

I saw the second Narnia movie today. Considering I haven't read the book to this one (and only half of the first book), I thought it was a good movie. Even with the Imperialist overtones. I'm not a big fan of C.S. Lewis which is slightly odd considering my (current) favorite lit-movement is based or written in the Colonial Context (a big word that proves I actually paid attention in class). Oh well, can't like every author out there.

knitting wise, I remember why I don't like knitting socks. There is just no room on them to have fun on the kid sizes. Let's not even count the cast-ons and frogging that took place this weekend. Best forgotten, but to sum up: I have to follow a pattern. And all the sock for kids patterns go cuff down rather than toe-up. I thought to make my own...too much pain on my part. Maybe next year....

fresh off the needles

I feel like I've been fraying at the edges lately. Sunday I did not even feel like knitting. Nevertheless, I did manage to finish my own socks. And take pictures of them.

I am so glad

...that I decided not to become a professor. Better yet, I will never be a teacher. To all those among us who fulfill those jobs, I give you a standing ovation. Here in the States, it is teacher appreciation week. And after working at the local intermediate school (4th and 5th grade) for the past 4 days, I can truly say I admire the men and women who teach.

Wednesday was really exciting. My standing Wednesday job, answering phones, was canceled. This gave me no excuse why I shouldn't sub all day. I was emotionally fried at 3 of the clock, so I grabbed a hot fudge Sunday on my way to Stash. Debbie Macomber was signing copies of her new book, Twenty Wishes, at Burke's Bookstore and I was able to pick up a book for Mom. Afterwards, she and about 5 others walked the three blocks to Stash. Let me say, she was one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet. I did not get my photo taken with her (no surprise to those who are acquainted with my disdain of photographic proof of my existence). It was cool. But more importantly, Mom was thrilled with the book. She is currently reading that series and will not let me start until she is finished. Something about wanting to read a book before me.

Yesterday, was long. Today was longer. The difference being, I worked last night at Stash. I was inspired to knit socks for the Twins. I know, I know, socks for kindergardeners. The Maternal Grandmother thinks leg warmers for dance class would be better. I'll think about it.

may or may not

it is that wonderful time of the year again. The local public school where I sub is experiencing Spring Fever with its teachers. This means I am on call for the rest of the semester. And I may or may not be working everyday for the rest of May. Lucky me.

I got a call this morning, so I packed my sock and we were off. These pictures were taken this morning, before I went in. Ta-da!

I have no clue what tomorrow's plan is. But it should all work out.

Aftermath...

graduation is not how I would have pictured it. Not all the family could make it, but lunch was a very pleasant affair to all who came. I wish that my Paternal Grandmother could have stayed around a little longer. All the same, it meant a great deal to me.

I knit during most of the ceremony. Icarus/Daedalus is in the last repeat of Chart I.

I might add another repeat, I have the yarn and time... Well, I have the yarn in any case. Although I have discovered something: one knows one knits to much when ones friends no longer blink when one takes out one's WIP.

Cable has discovered window ledges exists outside.

her opinion of them remains unformed at the present time. I, however, think she will be back up there soon enough. She does admit to liking the older cat in the family, Buddy. He is great to take naps with. (No worries about future generations, both cats have been made "it"s.)

believe it or not, Buddy is actually bigger than Cable.

Puppy does not appear jealous. And why would she? We're going to Library School this Fall. I know who I belong to.

while I am in a much better place than I was this time last year, I am still getting back to me. A long process to be sure, but well worth the effort I think.

May Day!

one day late, to be sure. But still, Happy Dancing Around a Large Phallic Symbol with Flowers.

the whole graduation thing is starting to be real. The strangling bit of cloth did that to me.

more later, my friend Purl Fiddlestix is here for the weekend and we are catching up. Pirate Liberian is swing through town around lunch, therefore she'll be able to celebrate with us.

this is so cool.
